On October 15th, 2025 just prior to 11:30pm, Public Safety Communications dispatched box alarm 49-05 for the apartment in the 8800 BLK of Hawthorne Ln. First arriving units had fire showing from a garden style apartment. A Working Fire Dispatch and Fire Task Force were sounded, bringing Engine 181 (utilizing West Lanham Hills Engine 484). On arrival, the crew staged at a tertiary hydrant to use if needed and deployed a handline over a ground ladder to the top floor. There, the crew was met with heavy fire conditions throughout the attic. 18’s lineman knocked a bulk of the fire in Apt. 201 while the rest of the crew worked with special services to open up the ceilings. After swapping bottles, the crew was redeployed to finish mopping up in the roofline and attic. The wagon crew remained on scene for approx 1-1/2 hours before returning to Glenn Dale Blvd.
