It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Past Chief and Life Member Glenn Moore, who passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at his home in Glenn Dale, MD.

Chief Moore began his fire service journey as a volunteer with the Glenn Dale Fire Association. Through dedication and leadership, he rose to the position of Fire Chief in 1960, a role he held with distinction until 1969. During his tenure, Chief Moore was instrumental in initiating a now-iconic safety measure — the transition of our apparatus color from traditional red to high-visibility yellow, a decision that continues to define our department’s identity.

He also served with great distinction in the Prince George’s County fire service, beginning his career as a Dispatcher at the Fire Board, then advancing as an Inspector and Fire Investigator with the Department of Fire Protection. As the county’s fire service evolved, Chief Moore became a pioneer in the newly formed Prince George’s County Fire Department in the 1960s, eventually achieving the rank of Deputy Fire Chief.

Even after his retirement, Chief Moore remained a guiding force in the fire service community. He dedicated his time and wisdom to mentoring younger members, shaping many into some of the finest Chiefs and line officers in the county.

Chief Moore will be remembered not only as a great officer and innovator, but as an extraordinary man whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
