Just after 7:00pm on August 28, 2025, the Rescue Engine was alerted to the outer loop of the Capital Beltway at Baltimore Ave for a personal injury accident. Immediately after clearing that, they were picked up as the special service for an inside gas leak on Larchdale Rd in Laurel. As that assignment was being cleared, Public Safety Communications dispatched box alarm 49-05 for an apartment fire in the 8800 BLK Hunting Ln. Rescue Engine 18 requested to run as the first due engine and was added to the assignment. En route, a large column of smoke could be seen. The 6th battalion chief arrived to find fire showing from a storage building attached to a 3 story garden style apartment. The Rescue Engine arrived shortly after and dropped dual lines. The crew deployed the 200’ 1-1/2” bumper line to knock the main bulk of the fire. Simultaneously, the officer checked the interior of the apartment building for extension, which was negative. The fire was knocked within a few minutes and the searches were negative. The crew remained on scene for approximately 2-1/2 hours before returning to the 2nd battalion.
